School Council
SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Another way for parents to become involved in our School Community is to nominate to be a member of our School Council. School Council are a group of dedicated people, working together with DEECD members to improve our school. School councils play a key role in Victorian government schools and have particular functions in setting and monitoring the school’s direction. |
School councils have three main responsibilities:
- Finance – overseeing the development of the school’s annual budget and ensuring proper records are kept of the school’s financial operation.
- Strategic Planning – participating in the development and monitoring of the school strategic plan.
- Policy Development and Review – developing, reviewing and updating policies that reflect a school’s values and support the school’s broad direction outlined in its strategic plan.
- raising funds for school-related purposes
- maintaining school grounds and facilities
- entering into contracts
- reporting annually to the school community and the Department
- creating interest in the school in the wider community
- representing and taking the views of the community into account
- regulating and facilitating after-hours use of school premises and grounds
- operating a children’s service at the school.
Current School Council
The current BHPS Council consists of the following people:

School Council meetings are open to the general community and we warmly welcome those wishing to observe. Please come along to our next Tuesday meeting @ 6pm if you are interested in seeing the Council in action. Dates can be found on our events calendar.
School Council sub–committees:
The School Council has formed several sub-committees to assist the Council with work that needs to be done. These committees are active and the parents involved are bringing their life skills to helping the school flourish.
We would like to invite other community members to contribute to these sub-committees and help the school in a positive way. The following provides a summary of the School Council Sub Committees. Please use this information as a guide for determining your interest in participating. A copy of the Terms of Reference for each sub-committee is available for the school office and the sub-committee Chairs details are below if you’d like a chat. If you are interested in joining one (or more) of the sub committees please fill in the Expression of Interest Form as soon as possible.
Buildings & Grounds Sub-Committee:
The Buildings & Grounds Sub-Committee is responsible for the upgrade and maintenance of the schools infrastructure. A key priority for the Committee is to review the School’s Master Plan for maintenance and development. The Sub Committee organises working bees, prioritises works and seeks funding to deliver priorities.
Fundraising Sub-Committee:
The Fundraising Sub-Committee is responsible for planning and overseeing activities that raise funds to improve the School and the learning experience of students. Activities include: Spring Fair, Friday Chai, Mangoes, Hot Cross Buns and more.
Policy Sub-Committee
The Policy Sub-Committee is responsible for developing and revising School policies. These policies will form part of the guiding principles that influence decision making
